I've had this piece of Hopi pottery since the 1960s when my mom gave it to me. She likely got it from Erich Kohlberg when she worked at Kohlberg's Antiques. She did sales, research and some restoration. Mr Kohlberg sometimes gave her things that could not be restored and didn't meet the store's high standards. Mr. and Mrs. Kohlberg had a world wide reputation as well respected dealers of rare unique and quality antiques and Native American artifacts. It may not have been all that desirable to the Kohlbergs at the time. I've always admired the artistic beauty and the mystery of this great old Native American piece and often wondered about the person who made it.
It's about 4 1/4 inches tall and 5 1/2 inches wide. It has some minor scuffs and chips but is such an attractive design with birds and an Owl? I'm getting old and need to find a loving home for this beautiful old piece with lots of character.
I admire the wonderful artist who made this unique pottery, even though they are unknown to me.
